'It's going to be a life skill': educators discuss the impact of AI on university education Artificial intelligence is changing how students learn and the world they'll graduate into. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently told a US podcast that if he was graduating today, "I would feel like the luckiest kid in all of history." Altman, whose company developed and released ChatGPT in November 2022, believes the transformative power of AI offers unprecedented opportunities for young people. Yes, there will be job displacement, but "this always happens," says Altman, "and young people are the best at adapting to this." New, more exciting jobs will emerge, full of greater possibilities. For UK sixth-formers and their families looking at universities, trying to make the best possible choices about what to study - and where - in the age of generative AI, Altman's words may offer some comfort.

How Artificial Intelligence Can be a Key Enabler of Collaborative Learning
Artificial intelligence (AI) systems can be used to improve collaborative learning and enhance the learning experience for students. Many educators and other experts have found flaws in the current education system. These experts have claimed that the present curriculum fails to focus on relevant life skills that can help in the personal development of students. One of these life skills is communicating and collaborating with other people. Such skills can be taught with the help of modern technologies like AI. Educators are already using AI in education to improve the learning experience.

Humanics: A way to 'robot-proof' your career?
As artificial intelligence becomes both more useful and more widespread, workers everywhere are becoming anxious about how a new age of automation might affect their career prospects. A recent study by Pew Research found that in 10 advanced and emerging economies, most workers expect computers will do much of the work currently done by humans within 50 years. Workers are clearly anxious about the effects on the job market of artificial intelligence and automation. Estimates about how much of the workforce could be automated vary from about 9% to 47%. The consultancy McKinsey estimates up to 800 million workers globally could be displaced by robotic automation by 2030.

Patient Education for the 21st Century Society for Participatory Medicine
As a longtime health care professional, it is hard to imagine a more exciting time in health care. The innovation and pace of change is breathtaking. Before our eyes, our health care system is being deconstructed. As it is reconstructed, aided by technology, the focus of care is shifting from the provider to the person. We have seen this evolution in the financial services sector, the transportation sector, etc. Technology has finally come to health care.

The future of jobs and education
Broadly speaking educational activities can be split into two categories – "Life skills" and "Professional Skills". The Life skills that we all need to learn and the way we learn them have remained relatively consistent across the ages – how we all learn to communicate, socialise and survive. But you can argue that today's education system is skewed towards the second category, the teaching of Professional Skills and it's this category that will face the greatest opportunities and challenges over the next fifty years. While educators prepare their students for a life of learning it's more true to say their role is to prepare students for life long careers. But while that was a relatively simple task in the past it's now much more difficult.
